Opulencia, Marvin

Doc. Marvin Opulencia

Occupation:  Physician

Club: Endure Multisport & Storm Chasers

Background:  He was initially known as the 4th bunny, but eventually was noticed more because of his close resemblance to one of the more famous cosmetic surgeon-turned-perfume-connoisseurs of the country. This doctor-runner is also into photography. He has always been behind his trusty camera whenever he is not running with the rest of the team. He is one of the most trusted photographers of takbo.ph (bringing out his camera, and take note, he also brought his tripod) right after the biggest LSD of takbo.ph and of Team Endure. This has landed him gigs such as FHM 100 Sexiest, and most recently, as part of RunRio’s event photographers. Other than photography, Doc Marvs considers swimming as one of his strengths, being one of the most proficient swimmers of the team. Running also has been one of Marvs’ strong points: he always makes time to run despite his hectic schedule, a testament that when you train, you gain (speed, power, more friends, etc). Dedication is also one strong point of Doc Marvs when he continued to compete in an open-water aquathlon despite having scraped his arm on a  fence. You’ve got to see his war scar from this event to understand what I’m talking about. This dead ringer for someone who has recently made public his engagement with another famous celebrity, we wouldn’t trade in our very own team doctor, NuttyBunny4.  words by Timmy

Pangan, Melvin

Melvin Pangan

Club:  Endure Multisport

Background:  Melvin Punsalang Pangan is one of only two ultra-distance runners in the team, having run ultra-distance races from 50km up to 102km. Unlike his famous actor-lookalike who is into women twice his age, Melvin is married to a much younger woman and is blessed with two kids.Old enough to have watched the first Rocky movie at the theater, his first love is actually tennis.  He gave up his dreams of being the next Roger Federer when he got hooked by the triathlon bug.

A graduate of the best school in the country, Melvin is cultured and refined hence loves imported wines and cheeses.  In fact he works for a company that distributes imported cheeses.

In spite of his busy schedule, he is able to train 10 hours a week.  It is suspected that he lives a double life and keeps all of his triathlon gear at a location that he keeps secret from his wife.  Mrs. Pangan has even bribed this writer with a signed deed of sale to her husband's bike.  Because he is a teammate, this writer has requested that the deed be dated August 15, 2011. This writer wishes Melvin good luck in his training for CAMSUR 70.3 and hopes that he takes good care of his bike during the race. Words by Bong_Z

Sarandona, Mike

Mike Sarandona

Occupation: Account Manager

Club:  Endure Multisport

Background:  Mikes Sarandona --- "discomfort is temporary" Mikes is one of the pillars of the team, and that is being literal. Standing a few shades under 6 feet, his initial reservations about doing triathlons was that his weight may be a disadvantage. But with a lot of hard work, particularly on the run, Mikes has proven that this sport does not discriminate in size. In fact, after just a year of being into the sport, he has lost a lot of weight and has significantly burned a huge amount of body fat into muscle mass.Like most people who are into multisport, Mike uses triathlon as a venue for channeling stress. He currently works as an account manager for one of the bigger BPO firms in the country. When he is training for a major event, he averages 8-training hours per week. On regular occasions though, he works out 6 hours a week to keep fit, alternating the disciplines in triathlon. Mikes is first and foremost a runner, and confesses that he still has a lot of room for improvement in swimming. His secret to improving in triathlon is rooted in 3 things: taking each day at a time, reading about the technical side of the sport to avoid injuries, and most importantly, giving the body time to recover by having enough rest and sleep.

Mikes is bent on continuing to incorporate multisport in his lifestyle, and in the future wants to do the Camsur Ironman. But true to his mantra, he is taking it slowly but surely. In his mind, triathlon really should not be a race. It should be an adventure we should all enjoy. And enjoying the journey is a lot easier in the company of his teammates. words by Melvin

Sebastian, Timmy

Timmy Sebastian

Occupation: Marketing Officer

Club:  Endure Multisport

Background:  It was the last 2 days of March 2009 that the former Takbo.ph site came up with a Q&A portion for the April Fools Edition. It was entitled “One Day Only: Ask Timmy.” Back then as a newbie, I thought who is this guy, TIMMY?! I tried to hangout most of the time at the site and join the chat in shoutbox. And there he was, ever present TIMMY.  For this, he was given a tribute by having his own Q&A portion for a day.But wait, there’s more! Timmy is one of the runners that I got to know and treasured as a friend. This guy is a graduate of Ateneo de Manila and currently works as a Marketing Officer for Running-Master Sports Corp (Mizuno). He is a very loyal friend, funny, smart and very passionate with his sport. He is known to many as their manager as he discovers talents left and right - from Argo to Julie HotLegs.

Last 2010, while recovering from ITBS, he got himself into cross-training which later on became part of his routine. Now, he’s into multisport. He definitely enjoys the natural high that he gets from this and applies all the discipline and lessons learned from multisport to his everyday life. Given a chance, Timmy would also want to explore and travel around the Philippines and other countries but of course will definitely still be doing multisport. words by Ross

His first official multisport event was Corregidor Aquathlon last October 2009 and after that he continuously improved his multisport abilities and has no plans of stopping.According to him, his long term goal is not only for self-improvement but also to help the improvement of fellow teammates so that not only will he be good at what he does, but also his teammates will be good at what they do. His best ability is that he is not afraid to make mistakes as he tries to improve his swimming, cycling and running. As his motto says "The greatest mistake a man can make is being afraid to make one." - Elbert Hubbard. But do not take my word for it. His forte is really swimming and  when he was supposed to be a last minute alternate in the swim leg of the 2011 Matabungkay Tri-United, he readily agreed saying, “Ok. May dala naman akong goggles at...dangal.”

He also takes wonderful and memorable photographs from his camera, as he is one of the team's official photographer. Ziggy Tura

Occupation:  Artist

Club:  Endure Multisport

Background:  Do not mistake Ziggy's sweet Visayan accent for a second. Behind that inviting charm is a monster of a man ready to pounce on you like a hungry tiger backed down to the corner. Make no mistake, the inviting accent will lure you in and once you put your guard down, be ready to stare at his behind. Be careful when going up against this mortal. He is one of the guys who influenced me to get a bike and he started me on swimming as well. Zandueta, Bong

Bong Zandueta

Club:  Endure Multisport

Background:  Bong Zandueta, fondly called BZ by his teammates, is no stranger to multisport. Having numerous aquathlons under his belt, it was just a matter of time before he plunged into triathlons. His performance at the Animo Triathlon proved that he will be a force to reckon with in future events. This heartthrob of Takbo.ph is not just a champion breaststroker and an accomplished marathoner, he is also a professional-grade bowler who averaged a score of 200 during his prime - he even has uneven-sized thumbs to prove this!

He is driven and committed in almost anything that he does. It is no wonder that he is well-respected and well-liked in the running community. As one of the “Masters” of Team Endure, he is often sought out to give sage advice to other members about almost anything under the sun ranging from training to love life with his trademark “Arrneeow” accent.

BZ enjoys watching movies, savoring food from different establishments, or just hanging out over a couple of bottles of Cerveza Negra. He spends his time away from work and training by being a daddy to Bella and a husband to Ellen. words by Karen
